Stress resultant plasticity for plate bending in the context of roll forming of sheet metal

Abstract Modeling of roll forming process sheet metal requires efficient treatment plastic deformations thin shells and plates. We suggest a new general approach toward constructing the governing equations bending an elastic‐plastic Kirchhoff plate on structural mechanics level. The generic function isotropic hardening law is formulated in terms variables, which are meaningful for material surface, namely resultant moments dissipative work. This then identified by comparison exact solutions uni‐axial or experiment within model with continuum through‐the‐thickness element. validate against both fully three‐dimensional simulations as well results traditional analysis, latter one featuring laws plasticity treated integration points along thickness direction. considered benchmark problems from literature prototype problem. Besides good agreement regarding shape zones force‐deflection characteristics, experiments also demonstrate higher computational efficiency stress model.
